Day 14

The weekend may have been a wash, but I think I made up for it today. My dear mother came home with me yesterday, to help out while Brian is away. I had told her a few days ago that I had a project for us to do, and bought all the necessary stuff. She's pretty handy, and offered to bring a few tools.

We had some "lockers" built in the garage when our house was built, for coats and shoes, etc., and I just thought that backpacks would go there too. It just hasn't turned out that way. The door to the garage is heavy and it's awkward to go out and get their backpacks to do homework. Not to mention it's quite a few degrees colder out there come fall and winter. I saw something like this on the latest season of "Sarah's House" on HGTV when she did the mudroom. (LOVE that show) It just hit me. "Yeah. I should totally do that in the back entry." It's really a hallway, but only family and close friends use that entrance, so it wouldn't be visible from the front door. It would keep backpacks off the floor and accessible. The wainscoting will help preserve the walls, and I  just love how it looks. I am so pleased with this project.

Two more hooks



 I had planned on hanging 5 hooks on the one wall, one for each child, but felt it looked too crowded, so I opted for just four. I hung two more hooks on the opposite wall. Meghan can have one of those when she needs it, and I'll just hang my purse, or reusable shopping bags, or use it as a something-I-need-to-bring-with-me-the-next-time-I-go-out hook, so I don't forget it.

Now I need to come up with something to put above each person's hook. A calendar, schedule, etc. so we know what's going on when. i.e whose library book is due when, who has gym class, you know, stuff like that. I've got some ideas (thank you pinterest), just need to figure out the best way.  Hopefully Brian will be just as thrilled with it as I am when he gets home. It's a surprise. Wish me luck!
